With all the controversy surrounding Diablo Immortal’s pay to win systems and extreme monetization, it’s no surprise that players are ready to give up on the game. With streamers like Quin69 not getting legendary gems even after spending $10,000 dollars, many players are wondering why they play the game considering the most powerful gear is locked behind spending thousands of real dollars to make progress.
Asmongold is one of the biggest streamers on Twitch. Due to his fame as one of the biggest streamers for another massive Blizzard IP, World of Warcraft, Asmongold’s opinions about other Blizzard games are taken seriously.
Since Diablo Immortal’s release, the videos related to the game on Asmongold’s YouTube channel have collectively received over 7 million views. There’s no doubt the controversy around the game has been beneficial to his view counts.
But Asmongold isn’t one to shy away from criticizing games. He’s well-known for his criticism regarding World of Warcraft, so it’s no surprise that he’d criticize Diablo Immortal.
Why Asmongold Said He’s Quitting Diablo Immortal
Yesterday, Asmongold tweeted that he’s taking a day off to recharge. He also mentioned how he feels about Diablo Immortal.
Real talk have been kinda burned out recently with everything going on, gonna take a day or so to recharge and also— Zack (@Asmongold) June 12, 2022
I think I’m done with Diablo Immortal aside from showing features on my stream, not because of P2W, I just think the game sucks-video on it later
Said Asmongold, “I think I’m done with Diablo Immortal aside from showing features on my stream, not because of P2W, I just think the game sucks.” He would go on to mention that he’d only show features of the game on his stream. As of now, the tweet has received over 11,000 likes.
Asmongold would further make his feelings about Diablo Immortal be known shortly after the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase where Diablo 4 was shown off.
Not sure I’m buying into the D4 hype— Zack (@Asmongold) June 13, 2022
D3 dead game no innovation for better part of a decade
Diablo Immortal P2W clown fiesta somehow a worse version of D3 literally reused tilesets and nostalgia bait
Compare to PoE/Lost Ark?
I rly hope I’m wrong, it’ll have to win me over
Said Asmongold, “Diablo Immortal P2W clown fiesta somehow a worse version of D3 literally reused tilesets and nostalgia bait” This refers to how Diablo Immortal reuses many assets and level design tile sets from Diablo 3. And since Diablo Immortal is considered by many to be a pay to win game, Asmongold has apparently had enough.
Asmongold has also spent over $2,200 dollars in the Diablo Immortal.
Asmongold would go on to release a video specifically talking about why he quit Diablo Immortal.
What Asmongold said about Diablo Immortal on his stream
On a recent stream, Asmongold would tell his viewers, “To be honest with you, I think this game is boring. The only thing that makes it entertaining is watching streamers burn 20 $5 dollar bills. It’s just boring.”
To watch his opinions on Diablo Immortal, you can view them at 1:48:18 in the video below.
After the Diablo 4 reveal at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, Asmongold would tell his viewers to temper their expectations about Diablo 4.
Part of his reasoning is due to the state of Diablo Immortal. He would talk about Diablo Immortal during he stream saying, “I don’t want to actually play this game. I genuinely meant that I quit this game. I don’t want to play this game anymore because I don’t find it fun.”
How Blizzard has responded to the Diablo Immortal controversy
Blizzard has been relatively quiet about the backlash to Diablo Immortal. The only update from Blizzard is a tweet celebrating Diablo Immortal as being the biggest launch in the history of the Diablo Franchise with over 10 million installs. Granted, the game is free to install, so it makes sense the launch was a record-setting achievement.
