Asmongold rose to fame as a World of Warcraft (WoW) streamer and has been generally seen as one of the biggest MMORPG influencers in the gaming world. However, it was notable that even though he played many MMOs on stream besides WoW, he never seemed to show much interest in Final Fantasy 14 (FF14) even though it was one of the biggest MMOs around.
While he was usually coy about his reasons for avoiding playing the game, many of his fans assumed Asmongold wouldn’t play the game due to its anime-inspired aesthetic.
Why is Asmongold streaming FF14 such a big deal?
That all changed in the summer of 2021 when Asmongold began streaming FF14 for the first time. His first FF14 stream would net him over 200,000 concurrent viewers. And his YouTube channel saw more viewers than usual because of the excitement of him playing the game.
The YouTube video of his first time playing FF14 is at nearly 3 million views at the time of posting this article.
Asmongold’s first-time playing FF14 was a record-setting stream for his view counts (this happened before he broke his own viewer records during the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial).
Asmongold would go on to play the game for a few months. He preferred Dark Knight as his main class, cleared Savage Raids, met Anubass and Dominic Toretto, and made it to the end of the Heavensward expansion. But Asmongold hasn’t played FF14 since October 2021 due a variety of personal reasons that stopped him from streaming for a few months.
When he did return to streaming, Asmongold chose to play another MMO, Lost Ark, instead. Many of his viewers began to gave up hope that he’d return to FF14, even though he said many times on stream that he’d eventually play the game again.
Asmongold would even post a video on his channel saying he “quit” Final Fantasy 14.
That all changed today when Asmongold announced that Final Fantasy 14 streams are coming back.
When is Asmongold coming back to Final Fantasy 14?
As you can see in the clip below, Asmongold has announced a return date for FF14 streams. He’ll start streaming FF14 again on June 21, 2022.
In the clip above, Asmongold noted it’s been almost a year since he last played FF14. He says he doesn’t want to make it a big deal, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he averages more than 100k concurrent viewers because the wait to see him play again has been so long.
We hope Asmongold ends up using a Fantasia potion to transform his character into a male Viera.
