First introduced in Generation 7 with the release of Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee, Melmetal is a Mythical Pokemon that can dish out lots of damage while tanking hits in return. Melmetal is a physical attacker with high HP and Defense to absorb damage.
As a Steel-type Pokemon, Melmetal has great natural resistances. Melmetal is immune to Poison-type moves and takes reduced damage from Normal, Flying, Rock, Bug, Steel, Grass, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy-type moves. That’s a lot of damage resistance.
Combined with its high base HP and Attack, Melmetal can be a challenge to fight. Melmetal can survive a lot of turns and can punish you with its strong attacks if you’re not careful – especially in its Gigantamax form.
For reference, here are Melmetal’s base stats:
- HP: 135
- Attack: 143
- Defense: 143
- Special Attack: 80
- Special Defense: 65
- Speed: 34
- Total: 600
But every Pokemon has a weakness – including Melmetal.
What is Melmetal Weak Against?
As a Steel-type Pokemon, Melmetal is weak against Fighting, Ground, and Fire-type moves. Melmetal takes 2x damage from Fighting, Ground, and Fire-type moves.
Players can use Fighting-type Pokemon like Machamp, Ground-type Pokemon like Garchomp, and Fire-type Pokemon like Flareon to heavily damage Melmetal. These Pokemon benefit from the 50% STAB bonus when using moves that match their type, so they’re a great option if you want to beat Melmetal quickly to tear through its high HP and defenses.
Pokemon that know Fire, Fighting, and Ground-type moves like Flare Blitz, Close Combat, and Earthquake can also deal extra damage to Melmetal.
