One of the most busted weapons in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is the Abyssal Hailstorm, the Light Bowgun (LBG) available from the final boss of the Sunbreak expansion, Gaismagorm. We think this weapon is insanely busted because it’s the meta choice for anyone who wants to run a Normal Ammo 3 or a Spread Ammo 3 build. Usually, you prefer to use rapid-fire Ammo with Light Bowguns because it deals out more damage. But this gun can compete with rapid-fire Ammo builds.
For those who played base Monster Hunter Rise, you might remember the Narcacuga LBG was the best. Somehow, Capcom has managed to introduce an even more ridiculous LBG.
In the case of this Abyssal Hailstorm, we wanted to build around to make a solid Spread Ammo 3 build. You might think of Spread Ammo 3 as a better ammo type to use with Heavy Bowguns because you get a shield and are tankier when you’re in an enemy’s face.
But for this LBG, it’s a lot of fun because being able to zip around enemies and then blasting them in the face while dodging their attacks is a fun, high-risk, high-reward playstyle. Overall, we want to go over this build we’re using to show why the Abyssal Hailstorm makes for a great Spread Ammo 3 build.
It’s probably one of the most comfortable builds we’re playing right now while the meta is still being defined for LBGs. We’re having a lot of fun with this one because it offers a lot of incredible damage and reliable defensive capabilities. For everyone who’s not great at dodging, especially against afflicted monsters that can potentially one-shot you, having skills like Evade Window and Evade Extender help increase your chances of survivability, especially when you’re right up in their face.

Explaining Every Piece of the LBG Spread 3 Build
So overall, the first one we’re starting with is the weapon.
The Abyssal Hailstorm has a raw Attack stat of 408 when equipped with a Long Barrel. This is the highest raw of any LBG in the game. The gun has -15% affinity, but that’s offset by the Kushala Daora rampage decoration that increases your affinity if you keep hitting enemies. So the -15% affinity isn’t too big of a deal.
Because of our armor skills, the LBG has no deviation, low recoil, and fast reloads. That means we’re consistently hitting our shoot button to keep blasting enemies in the face.
For our armor, we’re running the Arc Helm from Shagaru Magala, which is excellent because it has 1 point of Bloodlust and 2 points of Coalescence. We’ve slotted a Spread Up 3 decoration to help us get three points in Spread Up. Overall, it’s an efficient piece of armor.
For our body armor, we’re using Rakna Mail X, which is from Rakna-Kadaki. It has Spread Up, Reload Speed, Spare Shot, and Ammo Up, which is efficient. We’ve slotted in Ammo Up and another Reload speed.
For our gloves, we’re using the Pyre-Kadaki braces from Pyre Rakna-Kadaki. It gives one point in Maximum Might, two points in Rapid Morph, one point in Blast Resistance, and a point in Tune-Up. We’ve also got a Capacity decoration for the Ammo Up skill. What’s interesting about the glove is that it has one point in Tune-Up. Tune-up is a skill that increases the stats of Bowgun mods.
The next one we’re running is Rakna Coil X. Another great one just because it gives us points in Spread Up, Spare Shot, and Tune-Up. And then we put in decorations for Weakness Exploit and Evade Extender. Weakness Exploit (WEX) is one of the best skills in Sunbreak. WEX increases your chances of landing a critical hit when hitting a weak point. Evade Extender is clutch for this build because it helps improve your dodging. As an LBG player, you can at most take one hit from a boss. And if you take two hits, you’re likely going to cart. So you want that increased evade distance so you don’t take a hit.
For our greaves, we’re using the Arc greaves from Shagaru Magala. It offers one point in Bloodlust, one in Razor Sharp, and one in Spare Shot. We have two Weakness Exploit gems slotted in.
LBG Spread 3 Skills Overview
- 3 points in Weakness Exploit: This gives us 50% affinity if we hit a weak spot, which will almost always be a monster’s face.
- 3 points in Spare Shot: 20% chance to not use ammo when firing.
- 3 points in Spread Up: Greatly increases the power of our Spread Ammo
- 3 points in Ammo Up: This gets us up to seven capacity, which is always great.
- 3 points in Reload Speed: We have the fastest reload and don’t have to worry about standing in place
- 3 points in Recoil Down: We can continuously shoot without any delays.
- 2 points in Coalescence: We get an attack boost after recovering from the effects of the Frenzy virus.
- 2 points in Bloodlust: We are affected by the Frenzy Virus, which boosts attack and affinity.
- 2 points in Tune-Up: Increases the attack power provided by the Long Barrel mod.
Overall, that’s the LBG Spread Ammo 3 build we’re using. This is something that we consider to be a comfy build. It’s not going to be the highest damage dealer, but it’s a good build as your progress towards min-maxing your gear.
Having an extra point in Evade Window and Evade Extender is good because it helps you increase your chances of dodging attacks. And the more you dodge, the more you can go back into the enemy’s face and continue to blast them.
And that’s the general overview of the build.
